Museum to celebrate birthdays of Oregon and Charles Darwin
On Friday, Feb. 12, the museum celebrates Charles Darwin's 201st birthday with pizza and cake from 1 to 2 p.m. Visitors will sing happy birthday and reflect on the scientist that developed natural selection theories.
The state of Oregon celebrates its 151st birthday on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14. Museum visitors can explore Oregon's rich history in "Oregon - Where Past is Present," witness 15,000 years of human history and 200 million years of geology.
The new exhibit "PaleoLab - Oregon's Past Revealed: Whales of Deep Time" also offers a look at Oregon's history. Visitors are invited to learn about the evolution of the world's largest animals, and visit a working paleontology lab to observe and visit with specialists as they prepare and conserve fossil specimens for the museum's Condon Collection.
Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors and youths ages 17 and under; and $8 for families (two adults and up to four youths). Museum members, university faculty, staff and students are admitted free. Admission is free for the public on Wednesdays.
