U.S. chief economist for Patent and Trademark Office to speak at UO Portland

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Jan. 31, 2012) -- Stuart Graham, chief economist for the United States Patent and Trademark Office, will present akeynote presentation during the fifth annual Green Business Symposium, organized by students from the University of Oregon School of Law and the Lundquist College of Business.

"Operating in the Green: Foundations for Sustainable Business" takes place Thursday, Feb. 9, and Friday, Feb. 10, at the White Stag Block in downtown Portland. Leaders in the business and legal sectors, policymakers, and members of academia will discuss topics that include:

-      Corporate Governance in a Social Enterprise

-      FTC Green Guides and Green Certifications

-      Intellectual Property and Economic Development

-      Realignment of Capital for a more Sustainable Economy

Graham will deliver his keynote at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10. The event's Thursday keynote address will be delivered at 7 p.m. by Andrew Kassoy, co-founder of B Lab, a non-profit organization dedicated to using the power of business to address the world's most pressing challenges.

The Green Business Initiative Student Association is one of the first student organizations of its kind. Comprised of graduate students from the University of Oregon School of Law and the Lundquist College of Business, GBISA members are dedicated to the intersection of law, business and the environment. GBISA's mission is to promote awareness of sustainable business practices and the legal framework and policies that support green business.
