T. Bettina Cornwell, Department of Marketing

Bettina Cornwell is an expert in advertising and marketing. Her primary research interest is in difficult and high context communications where many things are left unsaid and meaning is derived from actors, symbols, logos, and the social milieu. This is found in indirect marketing, such as sponsorship, celebrity endorsement and brand placement. It is also central in international communication and in many public policy issues, such as how one communicates with children or how one encourages environmentally friendly behavior. She is also interested in memory for these types of communications and their immediate and long-term influence on behavior. 

Renee Irvin, Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management

Renee Irvin is an expert in nonprofit management and the economics of the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. Her research examines fundraising, philanthropy and foundation grant making, regulation of nonprofit organizations, and US policies affecting asset-building and wealth distribution.

Darren Johnson, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Darren Johnson is an expert in environmental sustainability through green chemistry. He tackles water pollution and purification, especially related to agriculture and industrial waste water. His research has found ways to filter and capture rare earth minerals from waste water, giving us clean water for everyone and highly valuable metals for industrial use.

Nathan Lillegard is an expert in entrepreneurship, particularly innovative and scientific business start-ups and investment. The University of Oregon fosters the development of dozens of start-up firms every year to support the transition of groundbreaking research into real-time market use.
