UO Board of Trustees elect officers, establish committees

EUGENE, Ore. – (Jan. 24, 2014) – Today, the Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon concluded a two-day meeting on campus to set the foundational elements of its organizational structure.

The Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon elected a board chair and vice chair, adopted bylaws and established three committees - the Executive and Audit Committee, Academic and Student Affairs Committee and Finance and Facilities Committee. The Board will officially begin to govern the University of Oregon on July 1, 2014.

Members of the Board elected Chuck Lillis as chair.  Lillis has been a member of the foundation boards at the University of Washington and the University of Colorado at Boulder, and has served on the boards of private and public companies including Williams Co., Medco and SuperValu. He received his bachelor's degree and his master's degree in business administration from the University of Washington, and his doctorate in 1972 from the UO's Lundquist College of Business.

“I am honored by the confidence my peers have in me to assume the position as the board chair,” said Lillis. “This is a critical time for the University of Oregon and we take our roles very seriously as we gather information and deepen our knowledge of the university.”

Ginevra Ralph, University of Oregon alumna, former UO instructor and a co-founder and director of education for Eugene's John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts, was elected as Board vice chair.  Ralph was also a co-founder of the Eugene Opera and the Oregon Festival of American Music.
