UO to host free couples’ counseling for Valentine’s Day

EUGENE, Ore. – (Jan. 31, 2013) – Couples looking to check in about their relationships around the Valentine’s Day holiday will get an opportunity with assistance from graduate students at the University of Oregon.

The Couples and Family Therapy (CFT) Program at the UO College of Education (COE) will host a “Relationship Check-In” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the HEDCO Clinic, 1655 Alder St., on the UO campus.

The event is geared toward couples, with graduate student therapists conducting free one-time sessions to celebrate and recognize strengths in relationships. The program has conducted similar events in the past.

Tiffany Brown, CFT clinical director, says the combination of community service and educational opportunity for graduate students is a “win-win.”

During each session, therapists will spend time with the couple, discuss how things are going in their relationship(s) and talk about strategies to work toward their goals.

“You may learn new things about yourself, your loved one, and/or your relationship,” says Brown.

Participants can also see the new clinic space and meet the family therapists who are working toward their master’s degrees.

Each session will last approximately 50 minutes. Interested couples should call the clinic at 541-346-0923 to make an appointment. Walk-ins on the day of the event will be accepted if time allows. Participants will receive a participatory gift and may be offered referrals.

For more information about the event, call the HEDCO Clinic at 541-346-0923, or email Brown at tiffanyb@uoregon.edu.
